25 Things I am Thankful for – Fitness Edition #22 Pushups
Pushups are a staple in body weight training. They can be done anywhere, anytime, and require the whole body to fire. There are many variations of pushups, so once you have mastered proper form on the basic pushup, you can mix things up and add in additional movements and equipment such as clapping, knee lift (spiderman pushups), a medicine ball, the TRX, etc. Pushups require good core strength in order to maintain a “plank” position while lowering and elevating yourself. There are modifications for those just getting started on pushups. You can begin by doing them on a wall or an elevated surface such as a counter. You can then progress to the ground where you can perform them from your knees, and then eventually from your toes. Practicing planks will help you move forward in the pushup progression.
