25 Things I am Thankful for – Fitness Edition #25 My Body
I love my body. It is far from perfect, but it is capable of so many things, including things I had never thought it could possibly do. I have to remind myself of this everyday. It took a long time for me to be able to say those four words to myself. I listen to people on a daily basis tell me all of their physical flaws, what they don’t like about their body, what they want to change or to get rid of, who they would like to look like. Very rarely does someone tell me how much they love their body, or a certain part of it.
In today’s society, women especially, focus on what is wrong with their bodies. They wonder why they can’t look like the models in the magazines or the actresses on TV. (Sorry guys, I don’t mean to leave you out. I just find this to be much more common with women). What we women need to be doing is acknowledging all that we are, all that we are capable of, and commit to work to improve the areas we are not satisfied with. This not only goes for our physique, but for our body as a whole.
I strongly encourage clients to change their mindset, not only about exercise and nutrition, but about themselves. Their homework usually begins with positive affirmations.
Positive affirmations are a great way to begin loving yourself. Tell yourself daily:
- “I am strong”
- “I am beautiful”
- “I am worthy”
- “I am capable”
- “I am confident”
- “I am loved”
- “I am in charge of how I feel”
- “I am in control”
- “I trust myself”
- “I love myself”
